The Recycling Centre is open 7 days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day
and New Year’s Day.
To access the site, you will need to book a slot.
Your rigid plastic items such as: plastic buckets, bins, storage boxes, garden furniture, toys or plastic plant pots are recycled in a closed loop cycle in UK & European facilities, producing a high-quality, almost 100%-pure secondary raw material for the plastics industry, for its further use in: pipelines, the automotive industry, construction materials, furniture and household items.
Keep safe on site:

• Use pedestrian walkways when navigating around the site.
To help you safely access the recycling areas, we are keeping all walkways clear of waste and any trip hazards. If you need help getting your waste over the barrier or wall, we encourage you to ask any of our site staff for assistance.
When you visit the re3 Recycling Centre facility in Reading, you will be greeted by the Meet & Greet Team, who will check your booking and proof of residency. If you are bringing "DIY Waste", they will also assess your waste and provide information about any charges. At this point, you can also purchase re3grow compost, that can be collected at the exit.
Remember, our team is there to provide any assistance; therefore, please feel free to share your feedback or ask any questions you might have.
To reduce paint waste, we are offering residents free leftover paint deposited on our site.
Please help yourself and use for any suitable project. More information about paint can be found here.

Please help us reduce our waste, by reusing as much as possible. At our sites, you can use the Reuse Area to drop off reusable items.
Reusing items prevents them from becoming waste in the first place and contributes to a more sustainable and responsible approach to consumption, while at the same time supporting charity and local organisations.
To recycle glass and jars, use our bottle banks at the re3 Recycling Centre or one of the150 Glass Recycling Sites located across Bracknell Forest, Reading, and Wokingham Boroughs.
There is no need to colour separate your glass bottles and jars. Please check for more information on glass recycling and locate the nearest glass recycling banks using our map.
FOOD WASTE
At the Transfer Station, re3 also bulk up your food waste which is transported to the Anaerobic Digestion facility in Oxfordshire.
In the digesters, the food waste is broken down by bacteria, creating a gas called methane. This gas is captured and used to create electricity.
In addition, the food waste breaks down into a liquid fertiliser, rich in nitrogen, which is used on fields to improve the soil and help grow crops.
ELECTRICALS
We recycle small and large appliances. Please ensure you separate all removable batteries from your items before placing them in the recycling bays.
Is it reusable?
Pass it on! We accept small electrical items at the Reuse Area.
Can it be repaired?
Try fixing it first! Visit one of your local Repair Cafes and receive help and guidance to repair your items.
OUR RECYCLING CENTRE
The re3 Recycling Centre allows residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading, and Wokingham Borough Councils to reuse, recycle, compost or dispose of more than 25 different waste streams.
We want to re-use, recycle and compost as much of the waste re3 residents bring to the Recycling Centres as possible because those treatments are almost always cheaper and better for the environment. Please load your vehicle safely and try to organise your waste before you visit a Recycling Centre so you can put it in the right place. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear and gloves when handling your waste on site.
Each year, we receive around half a million visits to our sites in Bracknell and Reading, which are managed by our partner, FCC Environment. When you visit, if you have any feedback or questions, especially regarding what can be recycled, please don't hesitate to ask any staff member.
SITE ACCESS
Residents access
When arriving at the site you will be asked to present proof of residency in the form of one of the documents below:
- driving licence, current council tax bill, utility bill*, bank or credit card statement*, Bracknell Forest resident e+ card, photocard bus pass issued by a re3 council, valid blue badge or residents parking permit issued by a re3 council
*Issued no more than 4 months prior to the date of the visit
Vehicle access
If you want to use a commercial (or commercial-type) vehicle to bring your household waste to the Recycling Centre, you will need to apply for a commercial vehicle permit. The Commercial vehicle permit is incorporated within the booking process. Please follow instruction during the booking process.
Pedestrian access
If you arrive at the re3 Recycling Centre on foot or on a bicycle, and you have brought an item/item of waste with you, please make yourself known to a member of staff who will advise you what to do.
TRANSFER STATION
All Mixed dry recycling, food waste, garden waste, and residual waste collected at the kerbside is brought by the council refuse crews to the re3 Transfer Station (in Bracknell or Reading) via a weighbridge, where it is weighed in and weighed out. After that point, your waste undergoes various treatments according to the material stream.
At the Transfer Station, re3 also bulk up your food waste and take it to the Anaerobic Digestion facility in Oxfordshire. In the digesters, the food waste is broken down by bacteria, creating a gas called methane. This gas is captured and used to create electricity. In addition, the food waste breaks down into a liquid fertiliser, rich in nitrogen, which is used on fields to improve the soil and help grow crops.
re3 GROW COMPOST
re3grow compost made of recycled garden waste is available is available to purchase during the gardening season.
MATERIAL RECYCLING FACILITY
All recycling collected at the kerbside is taken to the Material Recycling Facility in Reading where it is sorted, baled and sent to various reprocessing facilities to complete the recycling process.

TEXTILE BANKS
Clothes and textiles that are in good condition can be donated and sold for re-use. This is an important way to minimise the overall impact that clothing has on our environment.
Please keep your shoes paired; we recommend using plastic bags to protect the items. However, if you would prefer to donate them un-bagged this is fine too.
GENERAL WASTE
We recycle as much waste as possible and we currently only send some of our non-reusable bulky items to landfill.
The majority of our other non-recyclable waste is taken to the Energy from Waste facility located in Colnbrook. This facility safely incinerates the waste and uses the heat from this process to create steam, in turn generating electricity which is fed to the National Grid.
METAL
We recycle items made of scrap metal, including aluminium, brass, copper, iron, and steel. Metals can be infinitely recycled and is one the most valuable materials.
BATTERIES
Batteries need to be disposed of in the right way because they contain chemicals that are hazardous to the environment. If they are put into household bins, they can cause fires at homes, in waste collection vehicles or at our facilities, putting people at risk, and disrupting services.
At our site you can recycle all type of household batteries. Please try to separate all batteries before recycling. If you can’t remove a battery, place the whole item in our small electrical appliances bay.
SORT YOUR WASTE RESPONSIBLY
At our sites, we accept over 25 different material streams, from large electrical appliances, oils, chemicals and paint to small items such as coffee pods, fluorescent tubes, batteries, and vapes.
Please ask the staff for assistance to help you locate the correct containers.
"DIY WASTE"
Residents can dispose of small amounts of DIY waste for free at re3 Recycling Centres.
The amount of waste accepted for free in a single visit will be as follows:
• up to 100 litres of rubble, soil, plasterboard or asbestos or one bulky sanitary ware item no larger than 2000mm x 750mm x700mm in size (the approximate size of a bathtub).
A free allowance will only apply where the household has deposited ‘DIY waste’ on fewer than 4 occasions in any 4-week period. DIY waste brought in during any additional visits within this period will be chargeable.
GREEN WASTE
Please recycle your green waste loose, unless you use compostable garden recycling sacks. Ensure that your garden waste is free from plastic so we can recycle it into high-quality, peat-free compost (re3grow compost) that is suitable for use in your gardens.

re3 is a waste management partnership between three councils – Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils, who are working together with FCC environment to provide residents with efficient and cost-effective recycling and waste management facilities.

WASTE ACCEPTANCE
Accepted Waste
Residents of Bracknell Forest Council, Reading Borough Council and Wokingham Borough Council can bring their own household waste to be re-used, recycled, composted or disposed of free of charge. Please see the list of accepted items here.
Commercial Waste
We only accept commercial waste at the Recycling Centre from small businesses who are registered to use our trade scheme.
